How locals do it
A proper benbang dining room for the classics: 八宝鸭 (eight-treasure duck), 油爆虾 (flash-fried river shrimp) and 清炒鳝糊 (stir-fried eel). Book ahead for dinner; this is banquet-style Shanghainese, not street food.
Don't get this wrong
The 八宝鸭 is stuffed and steamed — order it when you book, it can take a while off-menu otherwise. Prices are dining-room level and portions are shareable, so order family-style rather than one plate each.
