How locals do it
Two dining areas share the building: the ground-floor takeaway counter (cheap, standing, locals queue here) and the upstairs restaurant (3-5x pricier, service charge, mostly tourists). On a budget or want the authentic one? Stay downstairs.
Don't get this wrong
The classic mistake is being led upstairs — the bill comes back several times larger. Also: lift the xiaolongbao gently with chopsticks, bite the skin and sip the soup first. Don't stab them with a fork.
